The Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation (Friends Foundation) has served CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System since 1997 — 25 years! The Friends Foundation supports the health and wellness of adults throughout south and central Texas by raising funds to support innovative programs, equipment, and more, at four general hospitals and regional health and wellness outreach programs in the South Texas Medical Center, at Westover Hills, in Alamo Heights, and New Braunfels. On Friday, October 28, the Friends Foundation will celebrate its 11th Annual National Speakers Luncheon, as well as its 25 year anniversary, by presenting Carlos and Malú Alvarez with the Beacon Award in recognition of their civic commitment and generosity.

The luncheon, which benefits CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospitals, will feature keynote speaker, Lonnie Mayne, an author and internationally recognized leadership authority, and Founder/CEO of Red Shoes Living, Inc. Red Shoes Living is a philosophy and framework that inspires us to live our best lives and do our best work. It reminds us to stand in our own way in literally everything we do. When we get it right, we create experiences that stand out, like a pair of red shoes. Lonnie is a former technology and turnaround executive who has spent thirty years building leadership teams to deliver Red Shoes Experiences, both inside teams, and getting the very best out of people using the Red Shoes Living framework.
Malú and Carlos Alvarez share a commitment to supporting San Antonio, the city in which they are proud to call home. They are very involved in the San Antonio community with Carlos serving on several local boards, advisory councils, and capital campaigns. Over the years, Malú and Carlos have supported several non-profits across San Antonio, such as the San Antonio Food Bank, Teach for America, San Antonio Report, and Child Safe, among others. The Alvarez family has contributed to educational institutions across the U.S., including every major university in San Antonio. In 2010, Carlos was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame and recognized for his achievements as an immigrant by the Ellis Island Medal of Honor award the following year.
