Bringing home your new bundle of joy can be full of unknowns and overwhelming joy. The Every Baby Matters Mission (EBMM) is here to provide relief and answer any questions the parents might have.
The EBMM at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – New Braunfels (CSRH – NB) takes the care provided within the hospital walls out into the community to ensure mothers and babies are healthy and happy at home. The EBMM is a free home visitation program offered to every patient who delivers at CSRH-NB, including high-risk patients, ranging from teen mothers and mothers with pre-term babies to those with feeding or social issues. Participating families are visited at their home by a registered nurse who provides parenting education and a medical assessment on mother and baby. The EBMM bridges the gap between the standard six-week post-partum visit with the doctor; addresses medical and emotional risks in mother and baby and links families with community resources. The program aims to give parents the tools they need to allow babies to thrive.
“For anyone who has become a parent, you know those first two weeks at home can be very difficult,” says Anna Akin, Clinical Director of Women’s Services at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – New Braunfels. “This program allows both mother and child to receive the assessment they need and deserve in the comfort of their own home.”
The EBMM operates 100 percent through philanthropic efforts from the Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation and the United Way of Comal County.
From June 2020 to July 2021, the EBMM served over 826 families in the New Braunfels community, and is the only program of its kind offering free in-home visits to newly delivered families.
