Since 1997, The Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation (Friends Foundation) has served CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System. The Friends Foundation supports the health and wellness of adults throughout south and central Texas by raising money for innovative programs and equipment for five general hospitals and regional health and wellness outreach programs in the San Antonio Medical Center, Westover Hills, Alamo Heights, and New Braunfels.
On Wednesday, October 13, the Friends Foundation will commemorate the 10th Annual National Speakers Luncheon by presenting Lacie and Joe Gorder with the Beacon Award in recognition for their civic commitment and generosity. The admirable work the Gorders have done for our community has inspired us to continue moving forward through our mission.
The luncheon, benefiting CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospitals, will feature keynote speaker Dr. Laura Esserman, an internationally recognized breast surgeon, breast oncology specialist, and visionary in personalized medicine. As a professor of surgery and radiology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and the director of the UCSF Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center, Dr. Esserman’s breast cancer work spans a spectrum from basic science to public policy issues and the impact of both on the delivery of clinical care. She is a provocative thought leader calling attention to and finding solutions for over-diagnosis and over-treatment of breast cancer, especially of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Additionally, Dr. Esserman led the creation of the University of California-wide Athena Breast Health Network, a learning system designed to integrate clinical care and research as it follows 150,000 women from screening through treatment and outcomes.
Table sponsors, underwriters, and Mobile Mammography Unit (MMU) donations for the National Speakers Luncheon are still available and being accepted! Through philanthropic support, the MMU brings mammograms to under-served areas of our community. Over 3,000 mammograms are provided via the MMU annually in Bexar, Comal, and surrounding counties. You too, can make a difference for someone.
