With A New Year Approaching – New Foundation Leadership and New Opportunities Of Hope

In late June of this year, John Bel, President of The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation and Vice President and Chief Development Officer of the Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation, announced his retirement after serving selflessly for the last 10 years.

During John’s current tenure, The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation has raised more than $120 million and the Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation has raised in excess of $15 million. These funds have gone towards expanding programs and healthcare services, funding groundbreaking research, and supporting medical services for the uninsured and the underinsured in our communities. He has undeniably made a huge impact on our ministry and his contributions will continue to serve our community for years to come.

Earlier this month, a new dyad leadership team was implemented. Terry Kyle, JD, CFRE, was named Chief Executive Officer and Chief Development Officer of The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation and Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation, and Dr. Ian Thompson, Jr. began his role as President and Chief Development Officer of these organizations.

Terry was promoted from Vice President of the Foundation. He joined the Foundation in February 2013 and was instrumental in leading the Putting Children First campaign, which raised over $85 million to convert downtown Santa Rosa into a freestanding children’s hospital.

Since 2017, Dr. Ian Thompson, Jr., has served as President at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Medical Center (CSRH-MC) and Vice President of Oncology for CHRISTUS Santa Rosa. He currently practices urology and urologic oncology. He has been leading the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Thompson helped lead the philanthropic efforts to fund the new oncology unit at CSRH-MC.

As we transition into a new phase in our mission, our goal remains the same. Both gentleman will continue the great work of the Foundations, supporting our adult and children’s health care ministries and the needs of our communities.
