The Best Pediatric Health Care, Close To Home

Your Generosity Supports Exceptional Pediatric Care In Our Community

For 150 years, we have promised to provide the best possible health care for patients and families, regardless of their ability to pay. This promise continues today, greatly due to the ongoing support of the community.

The David Christopher Goldsbury Center for Children and Families (CCF) is located on the campus of The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio and plays an integral role in the health care of children in our community and those well beyond. Originally opened in 1971 as the Santa Rosa Children’s Clinic, today’s outpatient clinic space was made possible by a community-wide effort in 2000, which raised more than $18.6 million to construct, equip, and furnish a four-story addition to the previous space. Goldsbury Foundation made the largest gift to the campaign, $5 million, and thus the facility became the David Christopher Goldsbury Center for Children and Families.

Dr. Shaylon Rettig is passionate about sports medicine and helping his patient’s succeed in life.

Today, the CCF is home to 24 pediatric specialty outpatient clinics and programs, plus primary care clinics and dental facilities, as well as a clinic for patients transitioning out of The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. Professionals at this special outpatient facility see more than 56,000 patient visits annually. The patient care team includes medical and surgical physicians, dentists, podiatrists, nurses, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, audiologists, and child life staff who combine their expertise to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of sick or injured children and their families. In addition, the CCF is home to various multispecialty clinics including, but not limited to, the craniofacial clinic, the vascular anomalies clinic, and the Prader-Willi clinic.

“Our Associates are highly engaged in our mission to Extend the Healing Ministry of Jesus Christ,” said Tiffany Deutsch, BHA, MBA, CPC, director of ambulatory services at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. “Over the past five years, The Children’s Hospital has been able to bring quality health care and subspecialties that were not previously prevalent in our community – and we have them all in one location. This allows for seamless, comprehensive care for patients and families and greater accessibility for the community. Some families previously had to travel many miles to other large cities to get this level of sub-specialty care – now it’s in their backyard, right in the heart of downtown at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.”

“The Gastroenterology (GI) clinic at The Children’s Hospital provided high-quality care for my daughter; a level of care we had not ever experienced before we visited the Center for Children and Families,” said Emily Jones, board member, The Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Our experience truly exceeded my expectations. Even today, my daughter recalls that her doctors, nurses, and the child life team made her feel comfortable and at ease. We are exceedingly grateful for this quality pediatric resource in our community.”

The CCF continues to grow. CCF leadership is highly engaged in the community’s feedback, consistently reviewing patient satisfaction surveys, with the goal of continuing to improve practices and building access. The Children’s Hospital also opened a new clinic in Stone Oak in 2018 and continues to grow its presence throughout San Antonio and New Braunfels to better meet the needs of the community.

“I am a mother of two children and I have experienced firsthand what it’s like to be a parent of a patient at The Children’s Hospital,” said Corinna Holt Richter, board member, The Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“My daughter, Charlotte, experienced exceptional care. She was treated so lovingly by the staff, nurses, and doctors. And beyond that, my experience as a parent was as stress-free as it possibly could have been.”

The Goldsbury Center for Children and Families stands as a reminder of the power of philanthropy and the generosity of those who gave of themselves to put our children first. It is the foundation that The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio will continue to build upon, with the partnership of Baylor College of Medicine.

“The Baylor College of Medicine partnership has brought so many resources and talented specialists to the Hospital; it is truly transformed,” Corinna added. “The Children’s Hospital is the premiere place in San Antonio and South Texas for pediatric care for our children. I’ve also seen the facilities and how they’ve changed through the construction, and that has been incredible. It’s such a warm and inviting space for our families to come into. To see that kind of investment here is truly exceptional.”
