The Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation is honored to award Mr. Charlie Cheever with the Beacon Award for his amazing contributions to our community at the 8th Annual National Speakers Luncheon coming up on Tuesday, September 25. Charlie is currently the Chairman Emeritus of Broadway Bank in San Antonio. He has served as Co-Chairman of the San Fernando Cathedral Restoration Project, Chairman of the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas Capital Campaign, Chairman of the United Way, and as Trustee of Incarnate Word College and Southwest Research Institute. Charlie also has served as Chairman of the University of Texas Health Science Center’s advisory board for the Center for Medical Humanities and Ethics, as well as the KLRN Capital Campaign.
Reverend Edwin D. Leahy, O.S.B., will serve as our speaker for the evening. Father Leahy is the Headmaster of St. Benedict’s Preparatory school in Newark, New Jersey. St. Benedict’s operates as co-ed, Kindergarten to 6th-grade Elementary Division, a Middle Division comprised of separate, single-sex 7th and 8th grades, and an all-male 9th – 12th-grade Prep Division. In March 2016, 60 Minutes featured Fr. Edwin in its Resurrection of St. Benedict’s segment about the school’s successful impact on education that has inspired educators, philanthropists, and volunteers near and far.
