The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio has officially graduated its first class of pediatric residents! Welcoming the residents into its inaugural program in the summer of 2015 was a history-making moment for The Children’s Hospital.

The residents were ‘first in line’ to work closely with enthusiastic faculty who arrived at The Children’s Hospital from academic institutions across the country, all with the same goal: to build a world-class, free-standing academic children’s hospital and training program.
Recognized as one of the top medical schools in the country by U.S. News & World Report, Baylor in Houston serves as the sponsoring institution for The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio’s pediatric residency program—a unique model that allows the Hospital to tailor programs specifically to the needs of the patients and of the residents.
Resident physicians and fellows, along with program coordinators, attended a special graduation ceremony and celebration on June 16. Sister Michele O’Brien opened up the evening with a heartfelt reflection. During the commemoration, guests heard from Dr. Michelle Barajaz, Director of the Pediatric Residency Program and Assistant Dean of Education at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, as well as the keynote speaker, Dr. Mark Gilger, Vice Chief of Pediatrics for Baylor College of Medicine. Two fellows and ten residents were celebrated for their completion of the program, an extensive three-year journey. Of the ten resident graduates, four have decided to remain in San Antonio for the next phase of their careers.
Because of the tireless work and dedication of the physicians and residents, the children of our community are able to continue on the path to a healthy life.
With the closing of one chapter, The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation welcomes the 13 new talented residents of the class of 2018 – 2021!
Congratulations to the graduates, and good luck in all of your future endeavors.
