A Legacy of Caring

Children’s Hospital – 1959

The moment the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word arrived in San Antonio in 1869, health care for children was transformed. In 1918, the first pediatric unit was opened at the Santa Rosa Infirmary. The Sisters continued to care for children throughout the 20th Century and in 1959 opened the first and only hospital for children, Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital. In 1999, the Hospital became a part of the CHRISTUS Health family. In 2012, construction began to transform the downtown campus into a freestanding children’s hospital, solely dedicated to proving world-class care to children and families in South Central Texas. Today we are The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.

Anchored to the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa heritage of caring for every child, The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio is writing a new chapter for pediatric medicine, in which every child, even the sickest, can receive the best care available without leaving San Antonio.

With your financial support, we are able to offer a broad range of services and conduct research to find new treatments, cures, and technologies that will save the lives of children.

As a faith-based, non-profit health system, we depend heavily on the community and private philanthropy to sustain our important work.

Consider joining our efforts by making a gift to The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation today. Your gift will allow us to provide the best care possible for our children.

On behalf of the patients and families we are privileged to serve, Thank You!
