When they were 20 weeks pregnant, expectant parents Stephanie and Todd were told that their unborn son, Kaden, had a 5% chance of survival due to a severe birth defect that occurs when the diaphragm fails to fully develop. The terrifying news would change their lives forever.
Kaden’s parents were referred to The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, the only pediatric hospital in San Antonio with a Neonatal ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) program. When Kaden was born, he received life-saving treatment and after surgery and 85 days in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), he was released to go home.
Thanks to the support of donors, like you, Kaden was able to receive the care he needed. He is now a happy and healthy six-year-old.
