An important part of what makes a difference in the care provided at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospitals is the hard work, loyalty, and dedication of its Associates and volunteers.
Carolyn Cox has dedicated 42 years of her life to CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System. She began her career at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa in 1974 as a secretary and held several roles of increased responsibly over 32 years, ultimately serving as vice president of marketing and communications for the Health System.

“It was truly a fantastic career,” Carolyn said, “I’ve always said I’ve only fallen in love twice – first, with my husband, Ray, and second with CHRISTUS Santa Rosa.” Carolyn retired in 2006, and began volunteering at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – New Braunfels (CSRH – NB), at the front desk where she greets and escorts patients.
“As much as we loved retirement, Carolyn missed her connection with the Hospital,” Ray said. “She has always wanted to do good work in the world. Carolyn considers CHRISTUS Santa Rosa her extended family – she always has. As a volunteer, she is able to stay involved with the Hospital and the people she loves there.”
Carolyn was recruited to lead the Patient and Family Advisory Council at CSRH – NB, a role she has held for two years. The Council works as a liaison between patients and administration, bringing ideas and suggestions to CHRISTUS Santa Rosa leaders from the perspective of patients.
“I get so much enjoyment out of leading the Advisory Council,” Carolyn said. “Administration comes to us with a number of questions and we’ve really been able to make a difference. It’s so wonderful to see our work come to full fruition for our patients.”
CSRH – NB has already made several changes based on suggestions and ideas from the Advisory Council, including recommending options for healthy food, adding a sidewalk from the Hospital’s front entrance to the street, and installing clear signage at the emergency room entrance to help visitors find the drop-off area for emergency room patients.

“I truly love it here. I love the people here and I value the care here,” said Carolyn. “It’s really different than other organizations and I think that stems from the caring spirit of the Sisters. I’m so grateful that I’m able to continue my work here – clearly, I was not finished.”
