Putting Children First

At 23 weeks pregnant, Hunter’s mom went for a routine visit with her physician and learned that her baby would need surgery after birth due to a condition known as esophageal atresia, a congenital condition where the upper esophagus does not connect with the lower esophagus and the stomach.

When Hunter was born, Dr. Barry Cofer, surgeon-in-chief at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio and his team successfully performed an  esophageal repair surgery, making it possible for Hunter to eventually eat and speak normally. Thanks to the expertise and hard work of Dr. Cofer’s team, Hunter is now a happy, healthy one-year-old.
