The Stars Come Out for Breast Health Awareness

The San Antonio Stars donned pink uniforms when they faced off against the Connecticut Sun on August 1. They played the game on a pink court to benefit the Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation to support the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Mobile Mammography Unit (MMU). Players auctioned off their jerseys after the game to raise funds to make mammograms accessible to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay.

The Friends Foundation is an active partner in the mission to bring life-saving screening mammograms to underserved women in our communities who may not otherwise have access to these services. Since the opening of the MMU in 2005, the MMU has provided over 16,000 mammograms. The MMU goes out into Bexar county and 13 surrounding counties, servicing more than 30 communities to provide breast health awareness for women who might not otherwise get these services due to financial constraints or transportation issues. Over 1000 of the screenings we provide each year are unfunded, and must be covered by funds raised through grants and donations. We want to extend a special thanks to the SA Stars and the community who helped support this fun event!

There should not be any woman in this community who dies from breast cancer because she felt she could not afford the screenings. Donate now to help!
