October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! All month long, we’ve seen the community coming together to raise awareness for the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. We’ve seen everything from corporate fundraisers and community events to pink shoes in professional sports. Awareness is critical. When awareness translates into action, it can be a major factor in early detection of breast cancer and plays a significant role in helping diagnosed women become survivors.
The Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation is committed to raising funds for critically needed equipment and programs to help make mammograms available to everyone in our community.
Just this year, the Friends Foundation funded an extensive equipment upgrade for the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Mobile Mammography Unit (MMU). This community outreach initiative is a completely outfitted radiology unit on wheels that offers convenient and affordable mammograms to underserved and underinsured women who have difficulty accessing services due to lack of transportation, financial resources, or other constraints.
Of course, it takes generous donations from our community to help fund these efforts. There are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved right now! Brio Tuscan Grille at The Shops at La Cantera is donating 10 percent of its sales every Tuesday in October (you can stop by today!) to help support the MMU and the fight against breast cancer in our community. A local kickboxing fitness franchise, 9Round, is also hosting a Kick-a-thon on October 24 for members and non-members to kick their way to fighting breast cancer. There are fun events year-round! Join our mailing list and stay up-to-date about upcoming events and fundraisers benefiting both of our Foundations.
We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the support of our community. If you would like to make a donation to either of the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundations, visit us at SantaRosaFoundation.org or call our Foundation offices at (210) 704-2800.
